Herts Alliance Victory!
On Monday I played in the Herts Alliance Pro-Am at Sandy Lodge where I started my year off with a win! I managed one eagle and five birdies for a round of 66 (-5) to win by three shots. I did, however, miss a 3ft putt on the 14th hole to go to -8 which was witnessed by Ashley Smith and Ian Taylor in the group in front. Looking a little nervous in the last four holes, I did drop two shots which was lucky considering where some of my shots ended up! What's more my team of Steve Jackson, Steve Sealey and Paul Vicary came in in second place in the overall standings!

The Winter Order of Merit hots up!
Daniel Trow took a one point lead over Dave Bennett this weekend in the Pro Shop Winter Order of Merit. Our leader moves to 139 points with scores of 37, 35, 33 and 34, Dave has 138 points with scores of 33, 38, 34 and 33 with all still to play for. The chasing pack, all with their four scores in and all with room for improvement are Peter Saunders, Gavin Edwards, Matt Nelson, Gavin McFayden, Rod Garland, Mark Lewis and David F. Williams. We've had 70 players compete so far and we still have eight rounds to go! This weekend we have two rounds on Saturday, 27 February and Sunday, 28 February and the remaining dates are as follows:
- Saturday, 5 March and Sunday, 6 March
- Saturday, 12 March and Sunday, 20 March
- Saturday, 26 March and the final round will be played on Sunday, 27 March.

Captain's Week
Our Captain's Week will take place in Bulgaria this year leaving on Sunday, 25 September for 5 nights bed and breakfast at Lighthouse Golf Resort and four rounds of golf (one on BlackSeaRama Golf Course, two on Lighthouse Signature Golf Course and one on Thracian Cliffs Signature Course). The Thracian Cliffs held the European Matchplay for two years! There are a couple of spaces available at an all-inclusive cost of £895 (flights , food and drink).

Improving your golf for the season ahead...
From time to time we like to share some coaching tips through our newsletters in an effort to help you lower your scores. This week you'll see we're offering some advice on how to effectively escape wet sand - which is somewhat topical, unfortunately.
Being able to adjust to the wintry conditions is a real skill, whether that's playing the ball a little further back in your stance to keep the ball underneath the wind, or adjusting your technique to escape wet sand (below) - so we hope you find these articles useful.
Of course, some one-on-one coaching may be what you need, as we appreciate that putting these tips into practice isn't always that easy, even if they make perfect sense.
