East Herts Ladies off to great start...
The ladies section at East Herts has never been busier with teams in lots of different competitions including inter-county, regional and national events. The Ladies Mail on Sunday team are through to the fifth round of the competition and now face Sandy Lodge away. Therese Shand and Bobbie Yeoman won their fourth round tie against Barkway, winning the game on the 19th.
We wish them the best of luck for their next matches and we will keep you posted on how they get on.
Little hits the big time!
Ryan Little, the closet Spurs Fan, took the big prize last Sunday winning the Coronation Cup! Played over 36 holes, the Coronation Cup and Tiger Trophy are difficult competitions to keep big numbers off of the scorecard, but Ryan managed to do it with two very good scores of nett 71 and 67. Thankfully he's been cut down to 12 now so isn't too much of a bandit anymore. In second place, and two shots behind, was Andrew McFayden with two nett 70's and Josh Cave came in in third with 71 and 70.
The Tiger Trophy, the scratch competition of the day, was won by our assistant Ash Smith who beat Matt Bennett by one shot. Both players were beaten by Tom Pepper, but as Tom didn't have a competitive handicap he couldn't take the prize, although he still won in our sweep! It was a fantastic turn out with 73 players taking part on what was the hottest day of the year so far.
Herts PGA Championship
On Monday, I played in the Herts PGA Championship, a trophy I won in 2002. After an opening 75 which included four three putts I shot -4 (68) in the second round to get into a three man play-off with Ian Campbell and Glen Portelli. On the first hole I nearly had a hole-in-one with the ball pitching six inches from the cup and rolling to six feet. Ian hit his ball in the water and Glen hit the green around 25 feet away. Glen missed his putt and Daniel narrowly missed for the win. The 18th was halved with just Glen and I left playing so it was down the first again. I then hit it to six foot again and Glen had left himself around 30 feet which he superbly holed and unfortunately I missed for the half. Congratulations to Glen Portelli, who the very next day, won the Middlesex Pro's Championship also.
Loch Lomond Greens Committee Trip!
Last week a few of the greens committee, along with our Chairman, were lucky enough to have been invited to Loch Lomond by Mr
John Watts. Myself and
Michael Johnson were very unsuccessful on both days golf against a very in-form
Geoff Cooper and the short game wizard that is John Watts. We lost three and two on day one and five and four on day two. We did a lot better in the bar afterwards though. On behalf of Michael and Geoff we would like to say thank you to John for his kind invite and great hospitality. The locker room at Loch Lomond is now my most favourite place in golf to visit!
Titleist Fitting DayDon't forget we have our Titleist Fitting Event coming up tomorrow, which could be the ideal opportunity to get yourself some new equipment ready for the season ahead.
