Europe,Europe! It’s time for my favourite event in Golf, The Ryder Cup!
Last time the Ryder Cup was held in Europe, at Gleneagles, I was fortunate enough to have a front row seat on the first tee on the Sunday along with Daniel, Lizzie (my wife), James Watts and Tommy Ullah, I can tell you, it was totally worth the 5.00am alarm.
The atmosphere was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced at a golf event and can only really compare it to being at a football match, It gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. |
|
This week, I am unfortunately only watching on TV but Daniel is making his way to Le Golf National with Gavin Mcfayden to watch Thursday’s practice, the first round of matches on Friday and to be in the 20,000-seater grandstand on the first tee hopefully when it all starts. Are you going? Make sure to send us some photo’s if you are and we will put them in next week’s newsletter. Come on Europe! |

Your path to better golf in 2019
That’s right, it’s now time to start getting your golf game in shape for the 2019 season if you are serious about playing better. How much do you really want to play better golf and how much time are you willing to commit to getting to where you want to be? If you have decided that enough is enough and you want to play better, get your handicap down, beat your friends, win a medal, not three putt or simply enjoy golf more, now is the time to start you on your path to better golf. Last year two players made this commitment and this is what they had to say:
Julie Button - September 2018 “I signed up for weekly lessons with Gregg and things started to improve. Gregg is very good at adapting his style of teaching to suit whichever person he is teaching, I have seen this first hand when I have taken part in group lessons. His style is straight forward and easy to follow and he is very patient. It is not just about standing on the practice range, Gregg will take me out on the course to play a couple of holes and then pick up on the little things that I am doing wrong which I can’t put my finger on and correct them. He gives me little drills to do to get myself back on track during a round while I am waiting for my playing partners to take their shots which are extremely helpful….. In the last year I have won a Major Board Competition, cut my handicap by five shots, represented East Herts in the Semi Final and Final of the Pearson Trophy and played my first match for the Ladies Scratch B Team which although I didn’t win, I did manage to take the game to the 18th. Thank you, Gregg,”

Iain Murray - August 2018 “Gregg is passionate about teaching golf, he is extremely friendly and approachable which immediately made me feel at ease. His teaching methods are easy to follow and to the point, enabling me to easily focus on key points and I can honestly say that from each lesson I have been able to quickly employ what Gregg has taught me. Pretty much every lesson has had a hallelujah moment! Regular coaching has allowed us to work on all aspects of my game, for example; my swing, short/long chipping, bunkers and putting. As well as working on technique, Gregg’s lessons have included time out on the course which has helped with my course management - from yardages, directional setup and even some quite simple, yet extremely effective tips! There is always so much to learn in golf and with the right teacher, such as Gregg, I feel this can be a really enjoyable and varied process. Since I began my lessons with Gregg, over six months, my handicap has come down from 16 to 10, so I’m really pleased!”

TaylorMade GAPR is crazy good! The all new TaylorMade GAPR has arrived at EHGC and with a lot of anticipation from us in the Pro Shop, Ash and myself have both put one straight in the bag after a trial, we are in love with the new clubs. |
We both have opted for the LO version of the new hybrids from TaylorMade and I can’t believe how far they go. “This new GAPR 2 iron goes as far as my driver. I hit it off the 3rd tee and only had 150 left in. When Ash and I were trying it on the 9th tee, Ash hit one which left him less than 100 yards in! You need to try one” this was exactly what we told Daniel. We have demo clubs available for you to try so make sure you do, Gavin Mcfayden and Matt Nelson have already got one in the bag. Click here for more information on the range or speak to a member of staff in store.

Comeback complete At the start of the year, 14-time Major winner Tiger Woods was ranked 1,199th in the world, following a fourth back surgery amid fears that he might never be able to compete on a golf course again. Fast-forward nine months and Woods has completed what will go down as one of the finest comeback seasons across sporting history. |
Now ranked 13th in the world, he topped off a remarkable year with his first victory since 2013 at the TOUR Championship, finishing second in the FedEx Cup and has once again shown that he may be the most talented golfer to ever play the game (we'll save that debate for another time). Particularly striking was the control Woods had over the whole tournament. Leading from start-to-finish, he never once looked as if he was going to lose his composure, sailing serenely through the final round whilst the likes of Justin Rose and Rory McIlroy crumbled under the pressure. The Big Cat is truly back. A gutsy birdie on the 72nd hole saw Justin Rose finish in T-4, which was good enough to see him crowned FedEx Cup champion, the first Englishman to do so, and in the process taking home a tidy sum of $10m (£7.6m). Not too shabby! |

New irons to improve your game |
Buying a set of clubs is exciting, but can be a tricky decision - you might love the look of the short irons, but feel a bit daunted by the longer clubs further up the set. However, you can always mix and match your clubs so that your long irons are more forgiving and your short irons are more workable, allowing you to strike approach shots from any distance with confidence. |
Mix & match with PING Why not try combining the long irons of PING's G700 series with the short irons of the G400? The G700 contains low and deep weighting, which gives you higher launch and more forgiveness - ideal for your long irons. Combine this with the G400, which has a hydropearl chrome finish to help maintain the launch and spin rates of your short irons in all conditions, and you'll be feeling confident through the whole bag. Could mixing sets be the answer you've been looking for? |
