Captain's Drive In - Get to know your New Captain James Sleigh
Congratulations to our new Captain James Sleigh on a very Successful drive in, the drive in was delayed from the original January date and I for one thought it was a much better time to drive inM the course was in fantastic condition and the weather was lovely. James initial drive in shot went a little high and his good friend Derek Wheeler collected the ball, Derek very kindly donated the bottle of Irish whisky back to be auctioned which it was for £45, thank you Derek, and thank you Pat who bought it. It was the first time that I can remember playing with James for some time and we had a very enjoyable game with ex Captain Michael Benjamin and Vice-Captain Keith Haslett. Thankfully I was able to carry James around and hopefully his golf will improve as the season goes on. Just getting my own back there James!
We were only beaten by a few pairs and the two stand out scores of the day were from Andy Kendrick and Barry Walker, and Dave Garraway and Brian Gildersleeve with 42 points. In total we raised on day £330 for the Stroke Association Charity, well done to all.
I sat down with James to ask him a few questions to find out more about himself:
How long have you been a member at East Herts? Has been a member since 1999
Favourite Golfer? Rory Mcllroy
Favourite Golf course ever played? Wentworth West Course
Favourite Football team? Arsenal but Norwich if they get promoted First Golfing memory/experience? As I’m left handed, I had to learn to play right handed with my father’s old clubs. He thought I was keener on cricket and that golf was just a passing fad so didn’t want to waste money on left handed clubs
Who’s going to win this year’s Club Championship? Jac Hicks
What’s your favourite golf club in the bag? Any club that works but on a good day my trusty 3 wood
Do you have any children? Married to Maggie (non-golfer but keen tennis player) and three children all grown up and living in London. Two are married - one to go! One grandchild.
Who would be your dream fourball? Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player. The big 3 who were the golfing gods when I was a boy
Flag in or Out? Flag out still (at the moment)
From all of us in the Pro team we would like to wish James all the best in his year as Captain. |
