Charity Day

On Wednesday, 16 September East Herts will be hosting a Charity day for Cam sight. "Cam Sight began life as the Cambridge Society for the Blind in 1912. Two Cambridge ladies, Mrs Stace and Mrs Lilley, enjoyed the friendship of a blind neighbour, Mrs Chandler. It was Mrs Chandler who suggested that a space should be made available for local blind people to come together for recreation and support."

Teams on the day will be playing with stars from the Ladies European Tour and I have listed below who will be coming along. It will be a great opportunity to watch some of the very best in European golf and hopefully you can pick up a few tips on the day. The pros playing on the day are as follows; Bree Arthur; Kym Larratt; Cathryn Bristow; Natalie Lowe; Becky Brewerton; Lisa Shervill; Hannah Ralph; Henni Zuel; Holly Aitchison; Charlotte Ellis; Charlote Thompson; Lauren Taylor; Stephanie Na and Hannah Burke.

The players will be warming up on the range at 12.30pm and teeing of the 1st and the 7th at 1.30 pm. The pro's will be involved in lots of fun competitions during the round and it will be a great opportunity to get close to the action.

As many of you are aware our very own Chris Edwards has been caddying for Hannah Burke these past few months and she will be here on the day also. Hope to see many of you on Wednesday

Finals Day

Battle for the biggest prizes in East Herts golfing year took place on Saturday, Ashley Smith (the young upcoming player) took on Mark Bennett (who had won three club champs before Ashley was born). Ashley started the day of very well, playing excellent golf in the morning aided by Tommy Ullah on the bag (or pushing a button on the trolley) and was six up after 18. Mark made a great start in the afternoon, with the excellent Caddie Christine Barns and had the game back at three down at one stage but a great birdie putt on the 14th hole saw the match finish with our new Club Champion Ashley Smith.

The Partridge Cup had the last Year's winner Simon Bird accompanied by Big Bird on the bag (Hagrid carried all day of course) against Kathryn Archibald with David hitting the shots. David played excellent golf and Simon could not do much in the morning and was also six down after 18. But there was a good come back by Simon in the afternoon and he played the type of golf we are used to seeing, from the 6th onwards he managed to get the game to the 15th hole, but the main damage was done by David early on only dropping five shots in the first 24 holes. So congratulations to our new Partridge Champion David Archibald.

FoursomesThe Autumn Foursomes final was contested between Phil Swan/David Bennett and Big Norm/Stuart Marshall, Steve Jackson and Stuart made a birdie down the first and never looked back. The star of the fourball was Stuart Marshall who managed his game and the team ball round perfectly. He did not miss a shot on the day and it was very hard for Phil and Dave to get a look in. Congratulations to Steve Jackson and Stuart Marshall the Autumn Foursomes winners.

All the games were played with excellent sportsmanship and I must say I really enjoyed the day watching some great golf. Thank you to our Captain David Moses for coming out to support and watch all day and thank you to our volunteers, Barry Walton, Laurence Printie, Rob Peachey and Phil Greenwold who refereed all the games.

The remaining Finals will be taking place next Saturday and we welcome all members to enjoy and support the players.

Enjoy the rest of the articles in my newsletter and have a great weekend. Daniel
