Men's Dinner Celebrating 2015's Champions
Last Friday was the Men's Annual Dinner with all of 2015's Champions receiving their trophies. With over 40 men in attendance, the night started off well with Liam Parfitt accepting the EGU gold medal and County Winner's Trophy on behalf of his little brother Shaun. There was a great atmosphere in the room and lots of banter between the members during the presentation. Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to all that supported the event. I even managed to get the first men's dinner selfie!
The next day 28 golfers ventured out on a brisk morning with slightly blurred vision. The winner of the Hangover Stakes were Paul Leonard, who was definitely hungover and Justin Bennet, winning his first competition with the new TaylorMade M1 driver. They won on countback from Duncan Woodcock, (who was carried round by) Keith Boulton and Harry Bennett who played with Martin Bushell all finished on 41 points.
Junior Academy Championship
Friday saw the annual Junior Academy Championships with 15 of our academy members taking part. Playing from short tees on the front six holes there were some fantastic shots hit and some amazing scores. In the scratch competition, Lewis Whittle took the Championship by two shots over Ollie Wade and five shots in front of Luke Fairley. The Handicap competition was a close battle and three players were tied at the top, one of them the defending champion. With a countback the only way to find the winner it was the defending champ, Alex Dyer, who came out on top for the second year in a row! Dylan Hayes, son of our Scratch Team Captain Ken, came second in his first competition and Brandon Ward finished in third. 10 out of the 15 players shot under their handicaps which shows how much the juniors have improved throughout the year. Congratulations to all our young golfers!
James Watts kicks off Stage Two of European Tour Q School
This week will see James Watts our Challenge Tour Professional head to Las Collinas, Spain for the next stage of European Tour Q School. James has played Las Collinas three time previously, with some very good scores there and with Robert Lorenzini and Micky Woollard making up his Entourage, I'm sure he will make it to the final stage.
Chris Edwards and Hannah Burke update
Last week they practiced in Dubai, they had a few challenge matches which ended in victory for the employer (which is good). This week they travel to Sanya in China and you can keep an eye on their progress here.
Herts Alliance Update
On Tuesday, 3 November I played the Herts PGA Alliance at Verulam Golf Club with Matthew Nelson and Michael Gardner. Neither guys had played there before and it was both there first time playing in the alliance. In a format with the best two to count on each hole I think 84 points was a great effort by the team, we were beaten into second on countback, but could not get near the winning team who had 87 points led by Glen Portelli who shot an amazing 64 (-8). I managed to shoot a 68 (-4) after a double bogey on my second hole, which finished third. On a positive note I have played golf twice in one month and am 11 under for the two rounds, less is better!
